EXTRA, EXTRA READ ALL ABOUT IT.

NY Terror Elites complete sweep over New England Insanity Elites with OT win in GM2 extending unbeaten string to seven as call ups excell.  NY Terror Minors also sweep with OT win in GM1.

The NY Terror Elites had a watered down roster as it headed to Rhode Island to play the New England Insanity.  On the way up, Elite Head Coach, Rich Ritchie and Minor Head Coach, Mark Ferro did some brainstorming on how to fill the void of the missing five players from the parent club.

They came up with a solution and it paid big dividends as the two Minor skaters (Frank Florio and Brian Yohe) figured in the scoring at critical moments for the NY Terror Elites. (AJ Frey was the insurance to back up Brodmerkel, in case of an injury).

In game one, Florio netted two markers on his first two shifts, giving the NY Terror Elites a 2-0 lead only 4:25 into the game.  Joe Mazzie (who also had an assist), Eric Reiger (added a pair of assists) and Brian Yohe (had an assist) added three more first period markers and the NY Terror Elites had a comfortable  5-0 lead after one.

Craig Brodmerkel lost his shutout bid with 5:23 left in the contest as the NE Insanity Elites converted on a 3 on 2.  They would add a second goal 45 seconds later to bring the score to 5-2, but Brodmerkel denied them the rest of the way for his sixth NY Terror Elite victory of the season.

It looked like the NE Insanity Elites were a different team in their second game.  The Insanity broke the ice in a scoreless game as the NY Terror Elites failed to clear the zone and it resulted in a giveaway goal with 2:52 left in the 1st period.  Frank Florio got the NY Terror Elites even at 1-1 converting on a 3 on 2 on a shot to the glove side assisted by Joe Mazzie and Tom Cartwright with only :04 seconds left in the period.

The second period was like a tennis match, with each team exchanging marker for marker and the NE Insanity Elites tying the game at 4-4 with only 2:51 left in regulation time, that’s how the period ended. Additional NY Terror Elite scorers up to this point included Joe Mazzie, Brian Yohe and Greg Pantaleo (who converted a home run pass by Shawn Masem after he slipped behind the Insanity defense on a cherry pick for the Terrors 4th goal).

Starting OT with the required 3 on 3, it only took :43 seconds for Jim Tamburino to set up Frank Florio in the slot, who streaked in on the NE Insanity Elite net minder, deked and slipped the disc over the goal line for the NY Terror Elites seventh straight win.  Net minder Craig Brodmerkel bettered his Elite record to 7W against 0 losses.

The NY Terror Minors defeated the NE Insanity Minors in game on by a 5-4 score.  Mike Tardino snapped the puck from the right faceoff circle to lit the red lamp :32 seconds in.  AJ Frey picked up the win between the pipes.

The NY Terror Minors almost saw a 5-0 lead slip away in game two, but they withstood a barrage of NE Insanity power play opportunities, winning 6-4 completing the sweep and bettering their record to 11W and 3L with 22 points.  They are currently in 2nd position in the New England Minors Division, trailing the LI 495ers by 2 points, but the NY Terror Minors have 2 games in hand.
