Some Other Facts: Grew up playing roller hockey in the streets of Brooklyn, sewer to sewer, on quads and unfortunately I never had the pleasure of playing roller hockey against the Mullen Bothers and Nick Fotiu ! Moved to Long Island where playing roller hockey was second, at the time, to the brutal Dek Hockey games in Centereach and went on many late night sabbaticals for ice hockey games at Superior Ice Rink. Throughout the following years, playing and coaching in Recreation leagues became a way of life. In the mid 90’s became a hockey official and was offered a managerial job at the facility. In a short period of time, I was approached and asked if I would entertain the request of becoming the Director of Hockey at the World Gym Arena. Of course I accepted!!! During the past 16 years as the Director at WGRH, the accomplishments gained were of a more personal nature than notable. I spearheaded and founded “The King and Queens Benefit tournament”, organized to help support a family devastated by the 9-11 tragedy. In fact, “The K & Q tournaments have raised thousands of dollars for families in need. In addition, in early 2003 became the Co-Founder of the Danglefest Tournament, a quality tournament targeted for all local talent to compete at reasonable costs but still strong competition among players. It was about a year ago, at a Draft Style Master Division (30 +) recreation league meeting, that I was speaking with a fellow team mate of mine, by the name of Keith DiPrima. It was actually Keith who suggested that I meet Rich Ritchie, a former professional roller hockey coach, as you never know what could come out of it, as he put it. He mentioned that we have a lot of common interests and similar hockey thoughts. Two weeks later Rich and I met. We spoke for hours and shared ideas of what we thought a strong a professional roller hockey team should exemplify and represent. A mutual agreement, sealed with a gentlemen’s handshake came out of the conversation and meeting. I offered him the Head Coach position in the organization, in charge of Player Development, which he accepted and hence the NY Terror was unleashed. |
