NEW YORK TERROR ELITES SWEEP NEW ENGLAND INSANITY ELITES IN BEST OF THREE DIVISION FINALS AND ARE CALIFORNIA BOUND

Tell me back in June 2011 that one of the new organizations teams, named the New York Terror would be going to California to represent the New England Division and many would have thought it might be crazy.

Elites Head Coach, Rich Ritchie, set his goals for the infant team in September 2011 on just being happy to make it to the Division Playoff finals, so to win it, was as sweet as could be.

The NY Terror Elites drew home rink advantage vs. the winner of the favored NJ Surge and NE Insanity, but a hot Insanity team defeated the Surge winning their best of three Semi Series in New Jersey the night before.

The Terror Elites had their game faces on for the best two of three Championship Series, which they swept winning 4-0 and 10-3.

In game one, the NE Insanity outshot the NY Terror 13-12 in the first period, but Jim Tamburino’s wrister from the slot, under the crossbar, assisted by Matt Miano, midway through the period accounted for the games only marker.  Both teams had to kill of a penalty and did so, but NY led after a period 1-0.

The Terror went into an explosive offensive attack in the second period, showing puck control, outshooting the Insanity by a 12-1 margin.  Patience paid off, as Sean Masem scored during a goal mouth scramble on a NY power play, assisted by Dan DiIorio and Joe Mazzie giving the NY Terror Elites a 2-0 lead.  A minute later, Tom Cartwright’s (unassisted) wrist shot from the slot with 4:40 left in the game and Sean Masems, 2nd of the game two minutes later on a New England giveaway, gave the New Yorkers a 4-0 lead, to close out the scoring.  Net minder Craig Brodmerkel stopped a total of 14 shots for his shutout.

The Insanity drew first blood in game two, taking advantage of a Terror giveaway for a 1-0 led 3:40 into the game.  The Terror however, exploded for seven unanswered goals, including two shorthanders (one by Joe Mazzie and one by Jim Tamburino) in that frame and the period ended with New York ahead 7-1.

The New England Insanity made some noise in the 2nd period, but after they came back to 7-3 (the closest they would come), New York tacked three more on for a 10-3 win.

Six different players had NY Terror Goals (Matt Miano 1, Tom Cartwright 1, Greg Pantaleo 1, Joe Mazzie along with Dan DiIorio a pair and Jim Tamburino a 3 goal hat trick).  DiIorio had 3 assists giving him five points and Mazzie had two assists for a four point game, but it was Jim Tamburino whose “dipsy doodle” moves raised many eyebrows and earned him the teams “Player of the Week”.

So the NY Terror Elites (New England Playoff Champs) have just about completed their itinerary for the trip to Huntington Beach, California with a best of three draw vs. the Pittsburgh Bandits (Great Lake Playoff Champs).  The winner will face the Mid Atlantic Playoff Champs (NJ Grizzles) or Colonial Division Playoff Champs (Scottdale Inferno) for a chance to represent the East Coast in the finals vs. the West Coast during Memorial Day weekend.  Stay tuned

On a different note…..The NY Terror Minors playoff hopes fell short in Rhode Island as the New England Insanity Minors defeated them in their best of three Semi Final Series.   The Minor Terror dropped game one 3-2 in OT, won 6-1 but lost the deciding game 4-2 (empty netter included) in the elimination.  Congratulations to Craig Zecca on his 5 goal series performance being named Minor “Player of the Week” and to the rest of the team for a great year in a strong NE Division.  Coaches Mark Ferro and John A Gomes did an outstanding job!!!
